Garment Quality Control Checklist

Consistent garment quality starts with clear standards. Whether you are developing a small clothing range or preparing a larger order, a simple inspection checklist helps teams review the same details at each stage instead of relying on appearance alone.

Fabric and material checks

• Check the fabric colour against the approved reference.
• Look for visible marks, holes, pulls or other defects.
• Confirm the fabric feel, weight and appearance match the agreed sample.
• Check that trims and accessories are the specified type and colour.

Measurements and fit

Use the approved size chart and measure garments at consistent points. Review key dimensions such as body length, chest, shoulder, sleeve and garment opening as relevant to the product. Compare like with like and record any differences rather than relying on visual estimation.

Stitching and construction

• Inspect seams for skipped stitches, loose threads or uneven tension.
• Check that hems, cuffs and collars are neat and secure.
• Test closures such as buttons and zips where applicable.
• Look for twisting, puckering or uneven alignment.

Finishing and presentation

Check pressing, thread trimming, label placement, size identification and overall appearance. If packaging instructions have been agreed, confirm that garments are folded and packed accordingly.

Keep the standard consistent

Use an approved sample as the reference point, document issues and agree how they will be corrected. If a specification changes, update the written brief so everyone works from the same version.
